The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has appointed the hospital pharmacist Justine Scanlan as director of pharmacy.
Announcing the appointment, the professional leadership body described the position as “a key leadership role” as it prepares to become the Royal College of Pharmacy this month.
The RPS said Scanlan (pictured), who has been head of specialist pharmacy service at NHS England since 2014 and starts her new role in June, will “lead on the new royal college’s ambitions to effectively champion pharmacy with policymakers, partners and stakeholders across Great Britain”.
The RPS also said she will “work with national pharmacy advisory councils and country directors and teams in Scotland, Wales and England to drive forward pharmacy policy and practice”.
“She will lead royal college activities across standards and guidance and science and research in pharmacy practice as well as the college’s heritage and library functions,” it said.
Scanlan’s LinkedIn page says she is “a strategic leader with extensive experience leading and managing teams (150+), budgets (£66 million) and realising business cases”.
“I’m looking forward to joining the future Royal College of Pharmacy and working with colleagues, members and stakeholders to drive high standards in pharmacy practice,” she said, “to ensure that pharmaceutical care delivered to patients is of the best quality and the safe use of medicines remains at the centre of everything we do.”
